So early on a Sunday morning at 9am with bleary-eyed enthusiasm, we descended from all parts of Singapore to gather at Changi Village. All 34 of us, youths, volunteers and helpers. We started the day forming into our three groups “Dice”, “Black“ and “Thomas and Friends”. Also new to the team are six more youths who joined for the first time. After a round of introduction and the warm ups, we headed down to the bum boats for a 10 minute ride over to Pulau Ubin. Once we touched down we picked up our bikes and formed into our teams to prepare for our adventure race.
Over the next three hours we cycled round the island and played the game across five different stations. Under the watchful eye of the station masters, we poked, skipped, juggled, crawled, untangled through a series of activities which challenged us in our communication skills, teamwork and perseverance. Beyond that it also helped us to get to know each other better as we perspired, supported and encouraged each other through the activities.
After the last station we all had a group picture before heading back to mainland for a well deserved lunch at Changi Point where the eventual winners “Thomas and friends” were announced. It was definitely a fruitful and fun-filled day for all volunteers and youths alike :) with many happy tired faces. Special thanks to the station masters and lunch brigade who sacrificed their Sunday to make the event possible for the expedition team!
